My latest customer care experience with Axis Bank. Where do we stand ?

How companies provide Customer Care Support in India, it is not a hidden fact.

Today’s brush with the customer care of one well known company: Axis Bank made me write an article about what we are up to.

I’d like to agree with one my US Green Card holder that living in India has one big disadvantage – namely everything is a hassle. You simply can’t concentrate on you job, family life. You will most likely face some or other hassles across full day.

You need to run for LPG gas, pay for your electricity bills, problem in your BSNL phone, no signal in your cell phone, calling a carpenter for a work, traveling in train, booking a bus ticket, admission of you child in a school etc.

Let me talk about one non-physical hassle – a hassle caused while simply sitting on my work chair but more importantly wasted my precious work time. But who cares for in India? Aren’t there much bigger issues like – rape, dowry, corruption and poverty there?

This is what it describes about itself in the about us page:

    The Bank has a very wide network of more than 1281 branches (including 169 Service Branches/CPCs as on 31st March, 2011). The Bank has a network of over 6270 ATMs (as on 31st March, 2011) providing 24 hrs a day banking convenience to its customers. This is one of the largest ATM networks in the country.

Let us see where it stands and what is Axis Bank’s target in it’s own words:

My Hassle

I want to open a current account on my mother’s name with Axis Bank in Aligarh but I’m not based in Aligarh! As my parents are old all I want is that an Axis Bank executive contact my parents to get an account opened.

Today I’ve tried to get Axis Bank, Aligarh’s contact number so that I can talk to Bank personnel. Today is Tuesday and is full working for the bank.

My first step was to locate Axis Bank site and then I went to Branch finder and selected Aligarh city and this contact details I found on it:

You can see that there are four phone numbers and another 3 toll free numbers present there. Mind you that the first four phone numbers are written in very unreadable fashion. First I tried calling the direct phone numbers ( with 0571). Nobody lifted it, no response. In one direct number : 274 1873 I got the reply that "this isn’t Axis Bank!".

Then I tried calling the toll free numbers from my Idea prepaid. Two numbers will simply get disconnected, one nobody lifted.

Now I searched for all India toll free numbers. I found it and those were same as mentioned above but never mentioned that those are all-India numbers.

Are those number toll free from BSNL or Airtel? No mention about it! Simply "toll free"!

Ultimately call to one number went through. After many menu selections I waited to talk to the operator and some music played for around 3 minutes. Now I got connected to a customer care executive who gave two new numbers for Aligarh branch, not aware of the numbers present in the Axis Bank website for Aligarh branch.

Here are the two numbers: 0571 274 3977, 0571 274 1852. Ok I was happy. But when I tried calling them nobody lifted. All these happened between 11 am and 2.30 pm. I tried many times but no success. Once I even found one number busy. When I tried again it went through but no response. So now today it is 6 pm as I write this and feel frustrated.

Who understands value of time in India? A least service we expect from any public service provider like a Bank that we should be able to contact bank without any hassle. And what does it take for bank to do?

I’m not angry to Axis Bank specifically. All I want to tell is that this is the attitude of many companies in India for being negligent in providing the most basic customer service - customer care!

Google Simplifies Process to Link AdWords Analytics.

If you've had problems integrating your Google AdWords and Google Analytics accounts together, you're in luck. Google is offering better support in order for advertisers and users of Google Analytics to link their accounts together.

While the change isn't immediate, the new linking process will be launched to all Google Analytics accounts in the coming weeks.

By logging into the admin area of Analytics, you can link your two accounts together. Alternatively, in the account area of your AdWords account just click and words linking in the account column, then click AdWords Linking in order to start their new linking wizard.

By linking the two accounts, users of both programs can have more integral data in order to determine marketing effectiveness and ROI when combining the data from both programs.
There has long been issues with advertisers linking up their analytics data, particularly if they're under two different Google accounts or if it is managed by client versus agency. 

Linking AdWords to Google Webmaster Tools remains unchanged.
Chris Morgan from the Google Analytics team is one of the Googlers working on this, and said it's a complicated process of linking the two accounts has now been reduced down to only three clicks.

80% of a Brand’s Facebook Fans Are Already Customers !

Social intelligence company Syncapse set out to answer why people become Facebook fans in its latest study and what the value of a fan is to a brand. The research found 78 percent of a brand’s Facebook fans have already engaged with the brand's product or services.

"Since being a brand user is usually a prerequisite to becoming a Fan in consumer goods categories, marketers should prioritize their Fan acquisition investments on converting existing customers," Syncapse said in its report. "Not only is acquisition cost and conversion friction lower, but the investment in a higher quality Fan base will reap rewards down the line, and this is true for both lower-cost and higher-cost consumer brands."

But there are other motivators for people becoming fans of a brand on Facebook, including wanting coupons or discounts or sharing personal experiences and interests with others.

But Syncapse warns that acquiring fans through discount offers often lead to a lower value overall for the brand.

"Many brands, particularly retailers and lower-cost brands with high purchase frequencies, often resort to rewards and direct-response incentives for driving Fan membership. However, these tactics are often blindly targeted to brand-promiscuous deal hunters, resulting in a lower-quality, fickle Fan membership (and waste of scarce marketing dollars)."

So just how much is the value of a Facebook fan?

Syncapse took into account several factors in its study including spending, loyalty, propensity to recommend, earned media value, acquisition cost and brand affinity when answering this question. The total value of a fan based on these factors is estimated to be $174 – a 28 percent increase since 2010.

But the true value in a fan, Syncapse argued, is measured by the motivation behind becoming a fan in the first place. While discounts and contests may drive a brand’s fan base up quickly, many of those Fans aren't likely to have staying power.

"After understanding the composition of social membership, it becomes critical for marketers to understand the reasons consumers become Fans of brands in the first place," Syncapse said. "Marketers must compare actual reasons for becoming a Fan, and the hard tactics (and often expensive investments) they often deploy to acquire Fans – sometimes they match up, sometimes they don't. There may be more effective and efficient strategies to acquire more of the right types of Fans."

Compared to some of the other social networking sites in our review, PerfSpot is a relatively new kid on the block. Like most social networking sites PerfSpot offers videos, music, customizable profiles, applications and groups. You can even open your own Internet store.
Although PerfSpot allows users as young as 13 to join, the site is aimed at college students and young professionals providing a more adult atmosphere. That’s not to say the site is adult oriented, but sections like “PerfNights” is a section dedicated to pictures of people drinking and partying. The profiles of users under the age of 18 do not appear in a general search.
A unique feature to PerfSpot is the ability to set up an Internet store using PerfSpot at your host. It’s your own little ecommerce site. All you need is a PayPal account and some stuff to sell. They also offer free online storage. You can upload an unlimited number of documents and files to your PerfSpot account. You can upload homework, PDF files, data reports and more from a wide variety of extension options.
PerfSpot also has videos from most of the major networks and Hulu. There are music videos, television shows, movies and more. There is also a substantial music section that lets you to listen to thousands of songs and add them to your profile playlist. However, we noticed you do not have the ability to upload your own videos to the site.
We liked that PerfSpot has an eclectic collection more than 100 groups to join and you could customize your profile using they’re profile editor. Although you can’t place your own code in like MySpace, you can choose a color scheme pick from one of their pre-made skins and themes.
We felt that PerfSpot’s interface was clean and easy to navigate. Privacy settings were easy to find and easy to set up. Various sections of your profile could be set to different security levels and you can limit from which countries your friend requests come from.
Although PerSpot is a secure site we felt that there wasn’t enough attention or focus geared toward networking with people you already know. Instead during the course of our evaluation there were more than a half dozen strangers from all over the world asking for friend requests. Although this is less likely to happen if our profile was set with stricter privacy settings, we wanted to see what happens when you keep your profile as public as possible.
